The Digital Grades and Diplomas are available for all our Classical and Jazz graded syllabuses (Initial – Grade 8),
Rock & Pop syllabuses (Initial – Grade 8)and the Music Performance Diploma syllabuses (ATCL & LTCL).They
enable candidates to record their pieces and technical work in one continuous takeat a place and time of their
choice and then submit the video recording via our online platform to be assessed by our expert examiners.
The exams have the same academic rigour as our face-to-face exams, and candidates gain full recognition for
their achievements, with the same certificate and UCAS points awarded as for the face-to-face exams.

To understand how the digital exams compare to face-to-face exams, and to help candidates identify what they need to record on their video,

Classical and Jazz Graded Exams
Face-to-face Exam Digital Grades and Diplomas
Three pieces (four for Singing Grades 6-8) from the repertoire lists in the relevant Classical and Jazz syllabus. Three pieces (four for Singing Grades 6-8) from the repertoire lists in the relevant Classical and Jazz syllabus.
All of the technical work as described in the syllabus – the examiner will ask for a selection in the exam. The same technical work options as in a face-to-face exam, but with reduced requirements to reflect the selection of technical work that candidates would be asked to perform in a face-to-face exam. In the case of scales & arpeggios, candidates will choose from two defined groups of technical work requirements.

Two supporting tests, chosen from Sight reading, Improvisation, Musical Knowledge, Aural Tests (depending on grade). Candidates will be assessed on how well the musical skills and knowledge that underpin the supporting tests are demonstrated within the context of their entire performance (i.e. the pieces and technical work).

Sessions skills – choice of either Improvising or Playback. Candidates will be assessed on how well the musical skills and knowledge that underpin the session skills tests are demonstrated within the context of their entire performance (i.e. all three songs).
