He is currently a tutor in Western Percussion and adviser to the Academy Percussion Ensemble at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He graduated from the Academy in 1996 with Distinction, majoring in Western Percussion under Dr Lung Heung-wing. He was awarded a Jockey Club scholarship the same year to further his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK.

Choy has been a guest timpani player and percussionist with many professional orchestras such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Macao Orchestra and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Concurrently, he was the drum kit player in several musicals, including Cats and Field of Dreams – A Musical and more.

He was also engaged to perform timpani and percussion concertos in concerts around the world, having appeared in the Sydney Opera House and venues in Beijing, Singapore and South Korea. He is also the endorser of Zildjian Cymbal, Latin Percussion and Elite Mallets, the last of which has even developed his signature series of timpani mallets.

After graduating from the Hong Kong Baptist University in Music, Anna went to Boston and graduated from the Berklee College of Music. She was twice awarded the Berklee Achievements-Based Scholarship in 2008. Since returning to Hong Kong in the year 2010, Anna is greatly welcomed by the local music industry. Anna is proficient in piano, classical percussion, jazz drums, drum music and dance from all over the world. Her performances and arrangements often give people a refreshing feeling.

She was often invited to attend music festivals around the world and very active in Hong Kong. Anna collaborated with a number of groups and artists including Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Jacky Cheung, Chet Lam, Eman Lam, Lowell Lo Kwun Ting, Eason Chan, Sammi Cheng, Hins Cheung, C ALLSTAR, Yoyo Sham etc.

Since 2012, he has been invited to write and direct the percussion music and theme song of the internationally renowned theater director Deng Shurong’s action comedy “Detention”. In addition to being the drummer of “maRK quartet” and various musical performances, Anna also stepped into the front of the screen as the host of Hong Kong TV’s 31 “Indie Music”, a series of ten episodes discussing Hong Kong’s indie music. Anna is the creative director, foreman and lead singer of the a diversified band [dǎ jiān] and  FANtastic Line, actively promoting extraordinary percussion and jazz culture.
